    Ghostery Alternatives

Ghostery is described as 'sees the invisible web - tags, web bugs, pixels and beacons. Ghostery tracks the trackers and gives you a roll-call of the ad networks, behavioral data providers, web publishers, and other companies interested in your activity' and is a very popular Ad Blocker in the Web Browsers category. There are more than 50 alternatives to Ghostery for a variety of platforms, including Mac, Google Chrome, Firefox, Windows and Linux. The best alternative is uBlock Origin, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like Ghostery are Privacy Badger (Free, Open Source), Disconnect (Paid, Open Source), Adblock Plus (Free, Open Source) and uMatrix (Free, Open Source).

Ghostery has its own problems selling data to advertisers. Disconect and uBlock Origin is better.

After Ghostery's new update they no longer allow you to individually block ads or social media trackers. It's now an all or nothing selection. Not liking this.

The emphasis of one is blocking ads , the other is blocking trackers. There maybe some overlap but you will not get both functions from either program.

ericwaters Not a tracker blocker. uBlock Origin may be a great ad blocker, but it does nothing to block trackers.

Trackers can only track you better in long term. But Privacy Badger turns the table with heuristics.

ericwaters Made by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Privacy Badger starts good, and then learns as it goes, getting progressively better at blocking trackers. It's open source, and there's no advertisements embedded in it!

JohnFastman Ditch "free" Ghostery, which sells your browsing data if you don't opt out of GhostRank during setup. Instead, go for these open source alternatives: PrivacyBadger (EFF supported, open source tracker blocker), Disconnect (open source tracker blocker) and uBlock Origin (open source ad blocker).

This alternative is disputed. Adblock Plus is still a legitimate alternative to Ghostery, but it might have issues that some users think are important.

Adblock Plus is about blocking ads. Ghostery is about blocking trackers. They're complementary. One is not a substitute for the other.

Adblock Plus focuses on blocking advertisements. While it can block tracking, it doesn't have an interface created for it like Ghostery does.
