FileTagger information
What is FileTagger?
FileTagger is a standalone Windows application for bulk-renaming files and flattening folder structures. It is designed for users who manage large collections of photos, documents, or mixed files and need fast, consistent naming without installing complex software. FileTagger runs as a single portable .exe. FileTagger offers a fast, safe, and flexible way to rename and reorganize files, especially for users handling large photo libraries or complex folder structures.
Bulk Renaming
- FileTagger processes all files inside a selected folder and its subfolders. The renaming system uses up to seven configurable suffix slots, each set to one of the following types:
- Year – uses the current year or a manually chosen year.
- Text – adds custom text (invalid characters are removed automatically).
- Folder name – uses the name of each file’s immediate parent folder. This allows fast renaming of photos based on their event/album folder names.
- Number – adds a 4-digit sequential number, either global or per-folder.
- A live Preview shows the final filename before applying changes, and an Undo system restores the previous set of names if needed.
Folder-Based Photo Renaming
- FileTagger can convert folder-organized photo collections into clean, flat file sets. You can rename files based on their subfolder names (for example, “Holiday_2023”, “EventA”, “EventB”), then remove or flatten the folders afterward. This preserves the meaning of the original structure while producing consistently named files.
Subfolder Removal Tools
- A dedicated flattening module is included:
- Remove All Subfolders – flattens the entire structure under a chosen folder.
- Remove Lowest Level Subfolders – only removes the deepest layer.
- Remove Empty Subfolders – cleans up unused structure.
- When flattening causes filename conflicts, FileTagger automatically resolves them using (1), (2), etc. A separate Undo system restores removed folders and returns files to their original locations.
Additional Features
- Optional omission of one chosen subfolder from renaming.
- Automatic saving and loading of user settings.
- Real-time operation log and progress bar.
- Works with any file type.
Requirements
- Windows
- No installation needed
