What is A Better Finder Rename?

A Better Finder Rename is a macOS batch renaming utility for precise, repeatable changes to file and folder names. Drag files or folders from Finder into the application and review every proposed name in a live preview before applying it. Fifteen action categories cover find and replace, prefixes and suffixes, case conversion, character and position changes, sequential numbering, date and time formats, and other filename transformations.

Photographers can rename JPEG, HEIC and major RAW formats using EXIF capture dates and camera or lens metadata, keep RAW+JPEG and other sidecar file pairs synchronized, and account for capture-time time zones. Music collectors can build filenames from ID3 metadata. Multi-step actions and selective filters can be combined into reusable presets and launched from Finder or through droplets.

Advanced workflows include regular expressions, recursive folder processing, importing names from spreadsheets or text files, file and metadata previews, change highlighting, and automatic filename-conflict resolution. The direct edition is available as a free trial followed by a one-time purchase, and a current Mac App Store edition is also available.
