This is something I've been hoping for.. A FOSS (free/open source) alternative to ITop desktop. It is very similar, though more simplified. AutoStart is not on by default.. it must be toggled in Setting. It asks for a folder drop, which may be good for small folders on the desktop, but to add more sizable folders that aren't on the desktop, right-click title bar, go to Frame Settings, and in the upper right choose Change Folder. I might miss the way the subfolder thumbnails show in the ITop...

I might miss the way the subfolder thumbnails show in the ITop panel vs an explorer popup, but privacy is a tradeoff. DeskFrame is actively developed with last release June 2025.
