What is Breathing Room?

Breathing Room is an open-source macOS storage and maintenance app for exploring disk usage, understanding app activity, and reviewing cleanup actions before approving them.

Explore storage by app, project, folder, or large file. View CPU and memory use for apps and their helpers, and investigate recurring storage growth with filesystem activity and sampled disk I/O. The cleanup assistant inspects relevant locations and presents a native-verified plan for review. Optional AI Care adds scheduled care for previously approved locations; new locations still require review.

The desktop app is free and licensed under Apache-2.0. Hosted AI Care is optional and costs $5 USD/month or $50 USD/year. Hosted agent features require internet access and sign-in.

Public preview for testing and development, not a production-ready release. Supports macOS 13+ on Apple Silicon and Intel; the universal release has not been runtime-tested on physical Intel hardware. Disk inventory requires Python 3.10+. The preview is Apple Development signed, not Developer ID signed or notarized, and macOS may block it. Back up important data and review cleanup actions carefully. Direct preview downloads are also available from the public GitHub repository without a Breathing Room account.
