Alternatives to Adobe Illustrator for Mac with any license

  • Inkscape

Inkscape is a professional vector graphics editor for Linux, Windows and macOS. It's free and open source.

    • Despite it has issues on mac, it works awesome on linux. Has a lot of on-the-way functions that Illustrator only could dream at. renemartnezJan 2018 • 6 agrees and 0 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • Apart from the advanced setup to get it to work on Mac OS, it is almost as capable as Illustrator, with very similar tools. Guest • Mar 2018 • 3 agrees and 0 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • Does some secret things that Illustrator doesn't or can't. Certainly has a more useable colour picker - shame on Adobe for that horrible colour picker! phillipsalfFeb 2017 • 43 agrees and 13 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • Inscape has a lot of tools and options. It's very stable. Updates are frequent. I never needed another software to get my job done. Guest • Aug 2017 • 29 agrees and 5 disagrees Disagree   Agree

    • I see no reason to try, let alone purchase, any other software for dealing with vector graphics cidianJun 2019 • 9 agrees and 5 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • Although it does crash at times (since it's still in beta), it is also much easier to use and I even took an E2020 class that uses this. I am surprised that such a powerful vector graphics tool is free unlike Adobe Illustrator. Honestly, whoever made this is one of the most experienced in recreating a paid app and making it free as well. SLZEROAug 2019 • 7 agrees and 2 disagrees Disagree   Agree

  • Affinity Designer

Affinity Designer is the fastest, smoothest, most precise vector graphic design software available. Built from the ground up over a five-year period, every feature...

    • Because Affinity Designer supports Metal tecnology on Mac OS and therefore works much better (has better performance). Affinity Designer is much more cheaper as well with no subscription. PlasticHeadJan 2019 • 3 agrees and 0 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • The Adobe alternative is too expensive for a non-professional like myself. As far as Windows (and Mac) is concerned Affinity Designer is an excellent alternative, as good as AI (IMHO), and very affordable.Together with Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher this is a perfect trio. Unfortunately not (yet) available on Linux... hansgroenerJun 2020 Disagree   Agree
    • As a veteran user of vector software from the beginning with MacDrawPro onto Freehand and then Illustrator, I consider Affinity Designer to be the most intuitive and user friendly of them all, amazing when you look at the size of the development team. Illustrator is a little more feature rich on the clever tool front but nothing that I really miss and the people at Serif continue to roll out updates – joy to use and now my default app, I can't sing their praises enough. Very well done! mailkosJan 2017 • 13 agrees and 2 disagrees Disagree   Agree
    • Really easy to use, one-time payment, a bunch of tools and especially how fast it is. Guest • Jan 2017 • 24 agrees and 2 disagrees Disagree   Agree

    • It's fast, more intuitive and far cheaper to run - after 20 years of using illustrator Affinity Designer has been a revelation for me. I've also been working with it's sister apps Publisher & Photo which all integrate in your work flow - an absolute joy. Guest • 8 days ago Disagree   Agree

    • Very slight but also intuitive difference in workflow and it has the same, vast breadth of vector features as Illustrator, only with a one-time purchase. Uniquely, it's highly optimized and super fast. UgotstaMar 2020 Disagree   Agree
    • One time payment, actually stable, so much more useful and fast to design in. After 5+ years with Illustrator, I don't see a day when I'll ever return to it. greentea1Mar 2020 Disagree   Agree

    • Entirely free. Easier to use than Inkscape, better with vectors than Krita, and available on more platforms than Sketch. It's a little slow and gummy when you've made a very complicated picture, but it's honestly the best possible alternative I've found. Thank you, and thanks to Gravit. rvanarsdaleMay 2017 • 6 agrees and 4 disagrees Disagree   Agree
