
Google releases Gemini 3.8 Flash with improved coding and a new cybersecurity variant
Google has launched Gemini 3.8 Flash, a general purpose model recommended for software engineering, autonomous agents, and complex multi step reasoning, just three weeks after Gemini 3.7 Flash. Google also reported performance gains across finance, legal reasoning, chart interpretation, video understanding, and biology.
On coding benchmarks, Gemini 3.8 Flash scored 71% on DeepSWE v1.1, up from 65.3% for Gemini 3.7 Flash and compared with 74% for Claude Opus 5. On Terminal Bench 2.1, it scored 89.4%, slightly above Claude Opus 5 at 89.1% and GPT-5.6 Sol at 88.8%. Pricing is $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output tokens through December 31, 2026, rising to $1.50 and $7.50 on January 1, 2027. Higher reasoning effort can increase tool calls and output token usage, while developers can reduce reasoning effort or continue using Gemini 3.7 Flash for lower overhead.
Google also launched Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber for vulnerability discovery and automated patching. It scored 47.2% on CWE Bench, compared with 47.8% for a Google described leading frontier model, and Google says internal tests produced 2.6 times more correct Chrome vulnerability patches than larger commercial models. Gemini 3.8 Flash is available through the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, Android Studio, Antigravity, Gemini Enterprise, and selected subscriber products, while Flash Cyber access is limited through the Fairwind Program to trusted government agencies, critical infrastructure operators, and software maintainers.
