Gemini Apps restricts free model access from October 9
Starting October 9, 2026, Gemini Apps users without a Google AI plan will have access to Flash-Lite, while Flash will require AI Plus and Pro will require AI Pro or AI Ultra.
Gemini is also using compute-based limits that refresh every five hours until a weekly limit is reached, with usage based on prompt complexity, features used, and chat length. Higher effort settings and features such as media generation, Deep Research, Pro, extended thinking, and Deep Think use more of those limits.

These LLMs are all gradually heading in this direction. While going crazy to get data centres out there, the freebies will be virtually gone and we'd be forced onto it as well as pay ridiculous amounts. I wish more power to the anti-AI movement
