Apple is developing a cross-device clipboard for iPhone and Windows PC for EU users

Apple has confirmed it is developing a cross-device clipboard feature that will let users copy content from an iPhone and paste it on a Windows PC, and vice versa. Universal Clipboard already supports this functionality across Apple devices, but the new system will extend similar capabilities to Windows PCs.

The feature is being developed for users in the European Union following an interoperability request Microsoft filed in March 2026 under the EU Digital Markets Act. Microsoft argued that current iOS restrictions prevent reliable clipboard syncing because third party apps can only access clipboard content while running in the foreground. Apple’s implementation will require users to approve sharing with paired Windows devices, while Microsoft will be able to create an extension for transferring clipboard items.

Apple said on June 26 that development is expected to finish in fall 2027, after which the feature will be released in a developer beta. A public launch is expected later, although Apple has not confirmed a release date, which types of clipboard content will be supported, or whether the feature will remain exclusive to the European Union or expand to other regions.
