Proton Mail adds Gmail account support for sending emails and importing messages
Proton Mail now lets users send emails from their Gmail address directly inside the Proton Mail app, making it easier to move away from Gmail without changing addresses everywhere at once. Once enabled, Proton Mail imports recent Gmail messages, and new emails sent to the connected Gmail address will continue to appear in the Proton inbox automatically.
The feature can be activated through Import via Easy Switch in Proton Mail settings, which also supports imports from Outlook, Yahoo, and Apple Mail. Proton positions it as a gradual transition tool for users who want to reduce their reliance on Gmail over time while keeping access to recent conversations in one place.
The company says Gmail messages viewed in Proton Mail are filtered for trackers, ads, and spam, while Proton Mail app activity, such as opened emails, cannot be used by Google for profiling. However, Google can still access emails received by the Gmail account itself, so Proton recommends updating important logins to a Proton address and disconnecting Gmail once the old inbox is mostly unused. The feature is rolling out gradually.
