Organic Maps brings improved alternative routes, intermittent water areas, and more
Organic Maps has released its September 2026 update, introducing substantial improvements to routing, navigation, and map visualization. The update brings enhanced alternative route calculations with more accurate estimated arrival times, alongside a new setting that allows users to optimize the order of intermediate route stops, a feature particularly useful for delivery drivers and travelers making multiple stops. Water-related mapping has also been refined, with intermittent water areas now displayed using a dotted pattern similar to sand markings, while water reservoirs remain visible at farther zoom levels. Additionally, water tunnels have been removed from map displays to reduce visual clutter.
The update delivers platform-specific enhancements for both iOS and Android users. iOS devices now support maneuver instructions on compatible car head-up displays and CarPlay dashboards, plus the ability to preview installed navigation voices before selection. On Android, users can stop track recording and save tracks directly from the notification panel, while the “Add Stop” button placement has been repositioned to insert stops after existing waypoints but before the final destination. Cross-platform additions include an eye icon for hiding individual tracks on iOS, buttons to add or replace stops in planned routes, and opening hours that now display “Noon” for 12:00 and “Midnight” for 00:00/24:00 for improved readability. The app continues to maintain its privacy-focused approach, utilizing updated OpenStreetMap and Wikipedia data while fixing several edge cases including search functionality across the 180° meridian and KMB file imports.
