OSM is a great map service. I've added so many streets, buildings, etc. to the area around me, I see it getting better every single day, and contributing to and opensource map project is fun, too!
Google API has recently started charging an arm and a leg for their services. I’ve used OSM before and am glad it’s still around. I am working on a new project to help grow OSM with the help of the users. I’m excited to be able to help grow a project that has been around for so long and just keeps growing! Keep up the amazing work and I’ll do my best to improve OSM along the way.
Open source Google Map alternative. Brilliant idea. Very accurate for all I've tried too.
A solid, alternative to Google Maps where users can contribute and that respects privacy as well.
A downside is that a lot of places aren't being mapped out; this could be down to the fact that adding new places / buildings is not as user friendly as it could be. It will get there eventually, for sure.
It's fun to edit/add places, especially do it with people within your local community.
Interesting and really long tutorial. Im not entirely sure what kind of user would dedicate so much time to mapping data though, but I commend the effort. In my area it only appeared 10-20% of all major businesses were mapped compared to Google maps.
