Notion unveils version 3.8 with enhanced agent capabilities & cross-platform integrations
Notion has launched version 3.8, introducing a suite of features designed to strengthen collaboration between human teams and AI agents. The update centers on “context for your agents”, with major improvements to synced databases now supporting GitHub, Jira, and Salesforce with live health status monitoring. Perhaps the most anticipated addition is column-level permissions for databases, allowing owners to control which specific properties individuals or agents can view or edit, a feature reportedly requested by users for years. This enables recruiting teams to collaborate on candidate profiles without exposing sensitive compensation data, while support agents can access account context without viewing restricted customer information.
The release also significantly expands AI capabilities and integration options. Users can now connect their existing ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscriptions to Notion for Business and Enterprise plans, eliminating duplicate AI subscription costs without markup. Notion's agent ecosystem grew substantially with the introduction of Model Context Protocol (MCP) connections, enabling Notion agents and custom agents to interact with 150+ external tools including HubSpot, Stripe, and Cloudflare. Additionally, seven new AI models joined the platform, including GPT 6.1-Sol, Opus 5.5, and Sonnet 5.5, all equipped with real-time awareness of team data. To ensure transparency in AI-assisted workflows, Notion upgraded its version history system with highlighted edits, detailed database change logs, and clear attribution for both human and agent modifications. The company also introduced a Skills API that allows organizations to write agent skills once in Notion and deploy them across multiple platforms including ChatGPT and Claude, positioning Notion as a central hub for AI agent knowledge management.
