YouTube Premium Family is reportedly raising its subscription price by up to €14
YouTube Premium subscribers are facing a significant price hike, with notifications of the increase starting on November 7 and taking effect on December 7. The price increase currently seems to affect only family plans, varying by region, with UK users seeing a rise from £16.99 to £25.99 per month, and parts of Europe experiencing an increase from €22.99 to €36.99. This change has led to an annual cost approaching $500 for some users, prompting widespread frustration and complaints on social media and Reddit.
The price hike seems to be partly attributed to Apple's 30% commission on in-app purchases, as some notifications were reportedly issued by Apple. In response to the backlash, YouTube is testing a "lite" version of Premium, offering fewer features and some ads at a lower cost.
Additionally, Premium users have reported an increase in ads, which YouTube is investigating, causing dissatisfaction among those expecting an ad-free experience. YouTube has also intensified efforts to combat adblockers and protect ad revenue by targeting third-party apps like YouTube ReVanced and introducing features to disable ad-blocking software.
As more and more ads ruin your YouTube experience, you are left with no choice but to subscribe. Then they will hike prices continuously like Netflix. I dunno. Is YouTube still worth it?
Uh, there has been a choice since the beginning. Use an ad blocker.

Must be a mistake. Google is such a good, genuine company and also my best friend.

Is YouTube Premium unpopular? I mean, I wonder how many subscriber they have which YouTube can afford to raise price. It was not attractive in the first place, but now its a dead proposition to me.
