It’s very easy to get to grips with. On Windows, I was able to set it to open at start-up and create a shortcut to display the minimised window whenever I wanted with no trouble at all. It’s highly customisable and allows you to store far more items in the clipboard than you can with the standard Windows clipboard tool. You can even create lists of items to keep for those you need regularly but which can be removed from the clipboard when the limit on the number of items that can be stored is...

My favourite email client on Android. I like its visual simplicity. I like the customisation options, particularly the filtering rules, which Thunderbird Mobile sorely lacks. NB: certain features, such as the rules, require a one-off payment to access the full version of the app; although I’ve only ever used the basic version for years, I missed the filters too much and I can’t always have my PC with me for that.

WaveUp has been a great help in keeping my Fairphone 3 up and running. With the buttons becoming unresponsive – particularly the power button, which refuses to work on its own – WaveUp has given them a bit of a breather by letting them ‘rest’ when I just needed to read the display or wake the screen using my passcode or biometrics.

A great open-source alternative to FidMe (proprietary). Simple and straightforward, the app delivers on its promises.

A mainstay amongst open-source alternatives to the YouTube video player. Most forks, such as PipePipe and LibreTube, are based on it. It remains simple whilst offering a very good viewing experience. Their team is very responsive to Google’s attempts to shut it down.

The only drawback – though it’s hardly one – is the lack of a ‘SponsorBlock’ feature. The developer(s) have deliberately omitted this on the grounds that if a sponsor appears in the video, it’s important to support the creator....

The main reason I switched from the Thunderbird interface to the Betterbird interface was its support for regular expressions (regex). Whether it’s for searching emails or setting up message filters, this is a huge help to me in sorting incoming emails, spam and so on into the right places.

A brilliant transcription tool. You do need to download a model such as Whisper from HuggingFace, but once you’ve done that, it’s incredibly easy to use. From what I’ve noticed whilst using it, it takes roughly one minute to transcribe one minute of audio. This will no doubt depend on your computer’s performance, but for a computer bought in 2023, I think the performance is pretty good.

I don’t think I’ve ever got used to Notion enough to feel the need to get used to AppFlowy, but it’s clear that it’s a very good alternative, based on what I’ve been able to try out.

It looks promising, although I can’t find everything I’m looking for, and MyPhoneExplorer does offer it. It’s a shame that the only way to install it on Windows is via that bloody GAFAM’s M$ Store.

It’s particularly simple and comprehensive for an offline tool. The only downside I can think of is that you can’t add ‘permanent’ participants. You have to create a group first. It would be nice to have a list of people you could add to a particular group ^^

It may well be in alpha 3, but it’s exactly what I was looking for to help me plan. Not too complicated for to-do lists or for Kanban ^^ – a simple interface with just the essentials. One little extra for me – though I’m not sure how relevant it is for this app – is a system for logging to-do lists.

Something similar to Notes (by Fossify) for ‘To-Do Lists’ in a vertical drop-down menu (like the columns in KanOne), for example, or even a mini calendar (weekly, monthly, daily) with the task list...
