What is TreeWrite?

TreeWrite is a local-first outliner for macOS, Windows and Linux. Each document is an infinite outline of nested bullets, which can be collapsed, zoomed into and linked to each other. Notes are stored in a plain JSON Lines file on the user's computer, in a documented format, with no account and no cloud.

Sync and backup go through the user's own Git: TreeWrite commits and pushes on its own a minute after the last change, and merges conflicts bullet by bullet. A document can also be published as a static website, uploaded to GitHub Pages, Cloudflare, Netlify or any server by a command of the user's choice.

Other features include many bullet types, a mind map view, a calendar with recurring dates and tasks, saved filters by text, tags and dates, side-by-side tabs, flashcards with FSRS spaced repetition, and custom themes. Notes can be imported from Workflowy, Dynalist and Logseq by pasting, and exported as Markdown, OPML or PDF.
