What is Strata Files?

Strata Files is a native macOS file manager and Finder alternative for Apple-silicon Macs running macOS 26. It indexes files in the user’s home directory and Applications folder for as-you-type searching, and also supports filters, natural-language queries, regular expressions, saved searches, Quick Look, tabs, configurable shortcuts, and a command palette.

The application provides Icons, List, Columns, Gallery, and Disk Usage views, plus an optional dual-pane layout. It calculates folder sizes, presents disk-usage maps, and includes views for large files and duplicates. File operations run through a queue with pause, resume, conflict comparison, optional verification, history, and undo support.

Strata Files also includes Git status indicators, project inspection and cleanup for several development environments, previews for code and common document or archive formats, container browsing, a command-line tool, and local document summaries and bulk-change assistance. Its index and history are encrypted locally; the site states that the application has no accounts, tracking, or cloud service.
