I really like how I can manage computer security remotely. I look for that kind of feature with a lot of these types of apps. Given the price point and even the free trial I think this is one of the better options. Not only that but it seems pretty light weight. After trying most of the antivirus solutions out there over the last 10 years, I have landed on this one.
The only downside that I have to this is that there have been recent bugs causing strife among the family. I have had to disable keylogger detection because the encryption that sophos applies isn't being decrypted correctly. So those computers affected just type gibberish. This has been a recent development, but other than that I would recommend this to anyone who asks.
The tool uses too much CPU and the tool feels somewhat sketchy.
Nice to have the solid Sophos name for home use and for no-cost, which is a winner in my view. While the software is a little trickier than some others to configure and work with, once setup it is unobtrusive. If you want a free security software solution for your Windows 10 machine, but also want a big name behind it, Sophos Home is a great choice.
The free version is good, but the paid version is even better! Sophos Home has a very high detection ratio for malware and very few false positives in my experience. I was a little skeptical of how it has to be controlled from a web page, but it is such a seamless experience — very few bugs to speak of. I would highly recommend for people looking to protect a lot of PCs and Macs. Or anyone or wants to protect computers remotely like for family and friends.
I made an account literally just to warn people to stay away from Sophos. The installer was super glitchy, the software itself was super glitchy and wouldn't even do a quick scan, and then the uninstaller wouldn't work and I had all these zombie processes that were hogging my CPU when I tried removing the software myself. Had to do some major gymnastics to finally get this thing off my computer. Really scary. I'm using 360 right now and I like it way better (as in it actually works...)
Fully agree. Avoid this product. It's very hard to install, as the installer fails. Once you've failed to install, you have to use their Uninstaller, which also fails. So they make you use a Terminal script, which is crazy for a home-user product. Then you start all over again (and it fails again). It can take an hour or two to install ONE computer. Once installed, it seems to consume too much resource - as I write, the scan started yesterday morning is still running after 24 hours. Is it scanning the whole of the internet? And then, if you want to get rid of Sophos, their Uninstaller fails, so you are back to running Terminal scripts. Avoid this product, even if you get it for free, as you will regret wasting your time or money or both.
I like this because it is free and is a comparable alternative to my older free anti-virus which turned paid for. this is something I can recommend for anybody looking for free anti-virus
I got Sophos Home a while ago did not know it was bundled with HitmanPro it is fine, but on Firefox and chrome there is this annoying green line popping up all the time it is annoying and it also has an encrypting text when ever I type something with my keyboard and when I went to uninstall the uninstaller did not work so I needed to manully delete via the program files folder!
[Edited by SecurityChecker, June 06] Other then that I do like the cloud settings system very unique but it does come a problem when you are offline! So I do not know what to say but just sticking with Kaspersky.
You can turn off the green outline in the settings on the web portal.
