- K0RR reviewed Shinobi
I always feel bad rating FOSS so low, but Shinobi is just… bad. The performance is atrocious, probably because the app is written in JS. The configuration is hard, even with their ONVIF scanner it took me more time to set it up than in Frigate (with their text-only setup). The UI is buggy, no "sane defaults" settings - if you don't change a few things it won't show you live streams.
K0RR added Shinobi as alternative to Nx Witness VMS- smartvision added Shinobi as alternative to SmartVision
joltfire added Shinobi as alternative to CCTV Viewer

Looks and feels good, with an decent UI. Gives you a nice dash with all cameras in one place.
Cumbersome setup for anyone unfamiliar with NodeJS. Left it for a week and found it has clogged up my system with random ffmpeg processes. Load average was over 200.
With some stability and documentation improvements, this could work well.
Modern features, free/open source, and a dedicated developer.
