What is SeaTools?
SeaTools is a diagnostic tool that helps you determine the condition of the disk drive in your external hard drive, desktop or laptop computer. The installation needs dot.NET 4 as a precondition. If dot.NET 4 is not installed, it must be installed before. Then in a further step the new dot.NET 4-installation must be updated, before you can install SeaTools. It includes several tests that will examine the physical media on your Seagate or Maxtor disk drive and any other non-Seagate disk drive.

The installation of dot.Net 4 was very long, and then needed an update, which needed a very long time too. In spite of successful installation of dot.Net 4 the installation procedure of SeaTools could not be finished successfully on Vista business 64 bit. Hands away from this unmature disk-tool.

A good software to diagnosis HDD. I only use it as a Live CD before boot not on Windows. Through it is a bit old and should be replaced by something better.
SeaTools is horrible software to use. It cannot be compared to HD Sentinel ot Crystal Disk Info or Harware Monitor as it does not cover most of the same features. It should be rather compared to e.g. WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic or Samsung Magician or any other branded HDD Software for disk checking and report used during RMA and support. I privately own 20+ HDDs including dead and working, 2.5/3.5/SSD Seagate HDDs, and even more Seagate owned Samsung and Maxtor still working, along with Hitachi, Western Digital, Crucial drives. The most useful tools covering SeaTools features so far for any brand drives have been:
