Personally, I've been using PSPad for 4 years (primary for HTML+CSS) - it's far from perfect, but I couldn't find a 100% replacement for for it.
I've tried over 20 editors - but I'm still using PSPad. I don't know why there're so many fans of NP++ cause there're lots of better alternatives (imho). Yeah, it's a bit faster, smoother, has better charset-support and code-folding - well that's the only advantages I found for myself. The better alternatives were:
The other editors I've tried (Vim, CoffeeCup, HateML, TopStyle, EmEditor, Komodo Edit, BlueFish, HTML-Kit, Emacs, jEdit, UltraEdit and some others) were worse yet for my demands comparing to PSPad.
After all, the features I miss most in PSPad are:
But for me PSPad is the best editor for the moment.
Everything posted about PSPad is correct.
Awesome editor, compare with npp.
Free? Invasive adware could cost $$ to remove.
Maybe cheaper to purchase another product.
I love the simplicity and the feature to edit multiple docs side-by-side.
Like Notepad++, it has tabbing, highlighting, and blank line removal. The highlighting File save status icon is sweet! If you like Scripts/Macros, you will find an impressive selection of extensions to add. But it is only available on the 32bit program, not the 64. Place the script file in the script folder under the right language... java or vbs. I think from there In Settings, go to Program Settings, System Integration, and click Integrated scripting support (WSH). Unfortunately, running these scripts seems to be over my head.. I think it's a programmer deal.
So what's the status on alleged adware mentioned here some 10 years ago or so?
By far the best text editor for windows
Switched to PSPad after experiencing too many problems with Notepad++
I like its small footprint and out-of-the-box Compare and Hex features.
I would give it 5 stars if a x64 version was available
It has one now, but if you want to use their extension scripts, it's only available on the 32 bit version.
