A native Mac editor for text and data files of any size. Open, filter, sort and edit multi-gigabyte logs and CSVs directly, without importing them.

The same CSV open as plain text and as a typed table. orders-export.csv, 20,000 rows, switched with one keystroke. Nothing is imported or converted; the file on disk is the file you are looking at.

A 1 GB CSV with 2,022,947 rows and 50 columns open in the grid, light theme. Columns are typed from the header row, any header sorts, and the status bar keeps a live profile of the column you are in. It saves back to plain CSV.
A 1 GB log filtered to Warn and above: 110,866 of 8,017,983 lines. The filter is a view, not an edit, so original line numbers stay true to the file and the lines stay editable. Matches can be extracted to a new document.

The Inspector beside a 1 GB CSV. Encoding detected as UTF-8 at 97% confidence, comma delimiter detected, header row found, and for the selected cell its parsed value and raw bytes. Nothing is retyped on the way in.

What is Caxton?

Caxton is a native Mac editor for text and data files of any size: logs, CSVs, TSVs, JSON, SQL dumps and exports. Every delimited file opens as text and as a typed table, edits in either view show in the other, and saving writes the same file back. Nothing is imported or uploaded.

It memory maps files instead of loading them into RAM. A 50 GB, 403 million line log opens immediately, and a 50 million row CSV opens as a sortable grid, well past Excel's row limit. The full methodology is at caxton.app/docs/benchmarks.

Features include find and replace with exact counts, Find in Files, a log mode with Go to Time and severity filters, file compare, 18 encodings, column transforms with a preview, validation with repairs, column profiles, removing duplicates, and Paste Special.

Caxton Free opens, searches and filters any file at no cost. Caxton Pro adds editing and saving, monthly, yearly, or as a lifetime license. 7-day trial of everything, no card.
