What is NewTube for Android?

NewTube is an unofficial, open-source (MIT) YouTube client for Android phones and tablets. It is built on SmartTube's engine by yuliskov, with a touch interface designed from scratch.

It focuses on simplicity, stability and performance. Videos start fast, and when YouTube refuses a stream the app switches to another route on its own instead of failing. There is no Shorts feed, and Shorts are kept out of Home and Subscriptions by default.

Features:

  • Sign in with your Google account using a code on Google's own page, without microG or Google Play Services. Signing in is optional.
  • Background play, picture-in-picture and a drag-down mini player
  • SponsorBlock, DeArrow and Return YouTube Dislike
  • Save videos for offline (up to 1080p) or keep just the audio
  • Cast to SmartTube on a TV, or to a Chromecast
  • No analytics, crash reporting or ad SDKs
  • Android 7.0 and newer
