Windows Media Player 6.4, but with many additional new features. It has a built in DVD player with real-time zoom, support for AVI subtitles, QuickTime and RealVideo support and built-in MPEG2/SVCD/DVD codec.
What is the difference Media Player Classic and Media Player Classic Home Cinema?
Media Player Classic was developed by Gabest while the 
MPC-HC is a mod designed mainly for homecinema usage and is released by Casimir666.
The project is no longer developed. The currently active fork is MPC-HC . Latest version, 6.4.9.1, released in April 2011, can be still downloaded from FreeCodec.com

used to be my favourite until VLC is created and it supports all codecs flawlessly

In my opinion, very good player too but not so good than VLC.
MPC has been discontinued. The current version is MPC Home Cinema. I would remove it from the page, or at least notify that's been discontinued.

The title says it all. Media Player Classic plays everything I throw at it and plays everything very well! Standard definition, high definition, it doesn't matter. MPC plays it all!
