What is Grain Photo?

Grain Photo is a private media search app for macOS, built for photographers and filmmakers managing large archives across folders, drives, and clouds.

Search by description, concepts, or keywords to find the shot you remember. Try "sailing through the fog," "first dance," or "black and white street photography." Grain analyzes your media files on-device using machine learning. you don’t need to tag or caption them first, and our media isn’t uploaded for analysis.

Bring photos, videos, and RAW files into one searchable library without moving files or changing your folder structure. Narrow results by date, source, camera, ISO, codec, and other metadata. Indexed drives stay in your library when disconnected, making it easier to remember where your files live.

Gather selects into collections and organize them with ratings, color labels, keywords, and custom fields. Grain reads existing XMP and IPTC metadata and works alongside Lightroom, Capture One, and your video editor. Its catalog stays separate from your originals, leaving your files and sidecars untouched.

Grain requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 13 or later. Try the full app free for 7 days, then pay $49 once to keep it.
