The easiest, fastest, and most painless way of setting up a self-hosted Git service. With Go, this can be done with an independent binary distribution across ALL platforms that Go supports, including Linux, Mac OS X, Windows and ARM.
Gogs vs GitLab opinions
Works great in low specs machines like an old pentium 4
Very easy to install most of the features of GitHub. Best of all small footprint. Can running a server with half a gig of RAM
More compact than GitLab, easy to deploy
As a self-hosted solution is the more complete and reliable
It's easy to setup , and very light weight in comparison to gitlab.
It is open source and self-hosted
Gitea is a community managed fork of Gogs, lightweight code hosting solution written in Go and published under the MIT license.
Gitea vs GitLab opinions
just look at the resources it less uses!
Programmed in Go , so need min. requirements
Really lightweight, 100MB(Gitea) download vs 1.5GB(GitLab) makes things clear as day. It's also written in Go while GitLab is mostly on Ruby, I think no need to explain performance differences. Of course it comes with a price: Gitea is not as feature rich as GitLab, but sometimes you do not need them anyway. Good alternative when you just need to manage your code in sane way.
It needs way less recources
Fast, nice and easy to configure
