I am not an expert in coding, so I can not give you an answer within that area. One thing I can say certainly, is that Gitlab is not owned by Microsoft, which is great. Their past with antitrust/fraud is not something, you should forget.

Not fully open source, reCAPTCHAs, hostile treatment of Tor users etc.
GitLab is the leader in DevSecOps.
Forced execution of non-free software; flagship instance running the proprietary Enterprise Edition; uses both hCAPTCHA & reCAPTCHA; heavily restricted with discriminatory policies; copious ethical issues

I can't login my gitlab account in a couple of weeks. I can't renew my password with email(also junk mail) and also can't contact with any gitlab admin. They have no free support with email or something. Lastly i try a free month ultimate trial to contact with them but no success again. Already i love open source products, this situation is a total mess..
