Comment summary: GitLab receives praise for offering a comprehensive feature set, including free private repositories, integrations with tools like Jira, and the ability to host one's own server. Users highlight its constant development and transparency, positioning it as a notable alternative to GitHub. Criticisms include concerns about its corporate policies and privacy issues, as well as challenges related to user support and reCAPTCHA usage. While GitLab is lauded for its leadership in DevSecOps, some users draw ethical comparisons with other platforms.

I am not an expert in coding, so I can not give you an answer within that area. One thing I can say certainly, is that Gitlab is not owned by Microsoft, which is great. Their past with antitrust/fraud is not something, you should forget.

Open Source is a great thing, we all should embrace.

Forced execution of non-free software; flagship instance running the proprietary Enterprise Edition; uses both hCAPTCHA & reCAPTCHA; heavily restricted with discriminatory policies; copious ethical issues

GitLab is worse than Bugzilla icon Bugzilla because users can't specify operating system and other information systematically out of box. Admins and users may come up with incompatible solutions...

I can't login my gitlab account in a couple of weeks. I can't renew my password with email(also junk mail) and also can't contact with any gitlab admin. They have no free support with email or something. Lastly i try a free month ultimate trial to contact with them but no success again. Already i love open source products, this situation is a total mess..

GitLab always felt like a leader in the source control game, although GitHub is catching up.
