This is bar-none the best open source Text to Speech and Speech To Text app for Linux in mid-2025. Supports MP3 output, some of the best open source models available, and the developer is incredible.
The only thing worth getting disappointed about is that open-source speech models haven't caught up to pricey "premium" models like NaturalReader via API. I'm not paying and I also don't want my stuff going to a cloud server. Hoping the recent updates with Voxtral speech model will advance open-source speech tools here soon.
Only missing feature would be to read from any app, or from any file. It's really good as is !
The accuracy of the transcription from speech to text depends on the language model you choose. I received good results with Whisper Large-v3. The speed is acceptable.
Works offline, which is important to me, as I don’t want my stuff stored on a third-party server.
