Comments and Reviews

Comment summary: Bibisco is praised for being open-source and feature-rich, with users appreciating its ease of use and essential features. Some find it superior to Scrivener and ideal for aspiring writers. However, criticisms include the lack of a dark mode, small font size, and the requirement to pay for certain features, such as search. Some users find its hand-holding features annoying but acknowledge they might benefit beginners. Bibisco is considered a robust alternative to other writing apps.

It is open source, but just as feature rich and as powerful than many commercial alternatives.

I struggled with Scrivener until I accidentally lost 2 months of work I'd done on it. Still not clear on how that happened. Bibisco looks fantastic, so I downloaded it. Unfortunately, even after going to Settings and selecting the largest font possible, the font used is still too tiny for me. I can't be the only senior citizen writing for fun and profit. Please consider making a larger font for those of us who struggle with worn-out eyes! Thanks.

There are three settings for the font and I am surprised you have difficulty seeing the text at its largest size. That said have you considered that you can change your device settings if you are visually impaired to improve readability?

The level of hand holding in this app is so annoying. Worst writing app experience I've ever had.

That said I am the type of writer who could write in Notepad++ and be 90% happy with the experience.

So perhaps if you are the type needs extra assistance starting and organizing your work it would be great, but compared to Scrivener I found bibisco to simply be too naggy and ridged.

Of course, I may recommend it to my 9yo niece who's just getting started in writing since alln the nagging and hand holding could actually be helpful to her.

It is the best novel writing software. It has all the feature I need, including simple keyboard shortcuts. I tested all other novel writing software. If you do not want its tracking features, simply do not use them.

Review from a new or low-activity account — shown here, but not counted in the app rating.

Very useful to write novel. There is lot of features to add but the software is better to use than Scrivener.

I think Bibisco could be a great piece of software for aspiring writers but making "search" a premium feature is just absurd! Many of the other premium features add functionality but not being able to search the content you created seems only intended to annoy the hell ouf of users so that they buy the premium version!

Pretty useful, does just what it says.

What is bibisco?

bibisco is novel writing software for writers who need structure, orientation, and more than a blank page.

It helps you plan, structure, and write a novel in one organized workspace, keeping chapters, scenes, characters, locations, objects, notes, timeline, analysis, and export tools connected inside the same project.

Unlike generic word processors, bibisco is designed specifically for long-form fiction. It helps writers understand how their story is built, how characters evolve, where scenes fit, and whether the narrative structure remains coherent as the novel grows.

You can use the desktop app on Linux, macOS, and Windows for the full writing experience. bibisco is also available on Android, iPhone, and iPad, and with bibisco Everywhere you can synchronize your projects across desktop, smartphone, and tablet.

bibisco is available in 15 languages. It offers a free Community Edition, a one-time purchase Supporters Edition for the full desktop experience with advanced features, and an optional bibisco Everywhere subscription for cloud synchronization across devices.
