Comment summary: Bibisco is praised for being open-source and feature-rich, with users appreciating its ease of use and essential features. Some find it superior to Scrivener and ideal for aspiring writers. However, criticisms include the lack of a dark mode, small font size, and the requirement to pay for certain features, such as search. Some users find its hand-holding features annoying but acknowledge they might benefit beginners. Bibisco is considered a robust alternative to other writing apps.

It is open source, but just as feature rich and as powerful than many commercial alternatives.

I struggled with Scrivener until I accidentally lost 2 months of work I'd done on it. Still not clear on how that happened. Bibisco looks fantastic, so I downloaded it. Unfortunately, even after going to Settings and selecting the largest font possible, the font used is still too tiny for me. I can't be the only senior citizen writing for fun and profit. Please consider making a larger font for those of us who struggle with worn-out eyes! Thanks.

The level of hand holding in this app is so annoying. Worst writing app experience I've ever had.

That said I am the type of writer who could write in Notepad++ and be 90% happy with the experience.

So perhaps if you are the type needs extra assistance starting and organizing your work it would be great, but compared to Scrivener I found bibisco to simply be too naggy and ridged.

Of course, I may recommend it to my 9yo niece who's just getting started in writing since alln the nagging and hand holding could actually be helpful to her.

It is the best novel writing software. It has all the feature I need, including simple keyboard shortcuts. I tested all other novel writing software. If you do not want its tracking features, simply do not use them.

Very useful to write novel. There is lot of features to add but the software is better to use than Scrivener.

I think Bibisco could be a great piece of software for aspiring writers but making "search" a premium feature is just absurd! Many of the other premium features add functionality but not being able to search the content you created seems only intended to annoy the hell ouf of users so that they buy the premium version!

What is bibisco?

bibisco is a novel writing software that helps you to write your story, in a simple way.

  • bibisco is a desktop application available for Linux, MacOS and Windows in 13 languages: czech, dutch, french, german, english, italian, polish, portuguese (Brazil), portuguese (Portugal), russian, serbian, spanish, turkish.
  • All that you need - with bibisco you can organize chapters and scenes, manage revisions, export novel in pdf, docx., txt, epub. And, of course, write with a fully featured text editor, also in DISTRACTION FREE mode.
  • Organize your ideas - with bibisco you can create a novel structure, define premise, fabula, narrative strands and settings: geographic, temporal and social context.
  • Focus on characters - your novel works if its characters are believable, that is when you understand human nature's complexity. With bibisco you can KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR CHARACTERS, in an unusual and funny way: an INTERVIEW!
  • Going into the deep - with bibisco you can see how characters, locations and narrative strands are distributed chronologically and across chapters. You can keep track of the number of words and characters you've written and you can see your story represented on a TIMELINE. You can draw the relationships between characters, places and objects using the RELATIONSHIP DIAGRAM.
  • Set your writing goals - with bibisco you can set your writing goals: deadline, words total, words per day and monitor the status of their achievement over time.
