    Not really discontinued, just not updated in 5 years.

    Since there have been no security issues, there is really nothing to update a simple utility like this.

    Works good for it's purpose as one of the best compression standards out there, although lack of widespread adoption of the protocol does limit it's usefulness to internal use.

    I recommend 7z or zip for files for others due to exceeding the adoption and familiarity threshold that people know how to open the archive.
