Vivaldi 8.2 brings address bar calculator and easier PWA installation to its web browser

Vivaldi has released version 8.2, arriving three months after the browser's major 8.0 update. The release adds address-field tools and makes progressive web app installation more visible.

For calculations, users can enter an expression directly in the address field. Pressing enter copies the result to the clipboard, allowing it to be pasted elsewhere. The optional calculator can be disabled in the settings, and Vivaldi says calculations are never saved, including in browsing history, for better privacy.

Alongside the calculator, sites that offer a progressive web app (PWA) now display an “Install” icon in the address field for easier discoverability and installation. Installed PWAs and their settings are available at vivaldi://apps. Vivaldi says installation downloads only a small manifest file and icon, while the app runs from its web server unless its author supports offline operation.

Looking ahead, Vivaldi is developing an enterprise edition of its web browser for businesses, public institutions, government departments, and schools, to offer an alternative to enterprise web browsers from big tech.
