Vivaldi 8.0 introduces major design overhaul and new layout presets, still no AI features
Vivaldi 8.0 arrives with a major design overhaul of the web browser, marked by the debut of its “Unified” interface. This update transforms the previously compartmentalized look of the browser into a single, cohesive visual layer, affecting how toolbars, tabs, and panels appear. By eliminating boundaries between components, the browser now displays all UI elements on a continuous surface. This approach results in a more streamlined appearance and allows users to select a theme that extends seamlessly through every part of the interface, from the tab bar to the window edges.
Following this design update, theme backgrounds are no longer restricted to isolated segments. Instead, they flow across the entire window, and elements no longer exist in separate layers. This improves alignment, simplifies spacing, and provides a more intuitive user experience for those seeking consistency throughout their browser environment.
Vivaldi 8.0 also introduces six preset layouts to simplify initial setup and customization. These options: Simple (clean and focused), Classic (the one you already know), Vertical Right (vertical tabs on the right), Vertical Left (vertical tabs on the left), Auto-hide (full-screen with panels and bar hidden), and Bottom (tab and address bars at the bottom), offer starting-point configurations directly during onboarding and in settings. Users can further personalize any layout to refine their browsing experience and tailor the web browser to their preferences.

Still no AI and never will be in Vivaldi. AI features in a browser is not more than a hype. It may be usefull for some users, but for others not. Apart of privacy and other concerns, IMHO it dont make much sense to include an stock AI in the browser, due to the existing thousends of AIs, specific for any type of tasks, in the market. So it's way more logical that every user, if he want, can select an AI app (as extension, bookmark, Web Panel, desktop, etc) which is really usefull for him.
Well done to the Vivaldi team for sticking to their principles. With this new version I think it's time I try it out again.
