Apple introduces a redesigned Health app and Apple Watch with continuous Siri AI listening

Alongside the announcement of its new foldable iPhone, Apple has also announced the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, starting at $399 and launching September 18. More notably, the company is preparing a major overhaul of the Apple Health app and introducing new Siri AI powered "Audio Intelligence" features that can keep the Apple Watch listening to nearby conversations to generate summaries from what it hears, or even retrieve what someone said seconds earlier.

New features include a 0 to 10 Readiness score, Longevity and Health Age sections, similar to features already offered by Whoop or Garmin, plus expanded daytime and overnight Vitals data and at home movement assessments using the iPhone camera and Apple Watch, while Cycle Tracking adds perimenopause and menopause support.

Perhaps the most controversial addition is Audio Intelligence, essentially an audio counterpart to Visual Intelligence, with features such as Siri Recap and Live Rewind. Siri Recap can continuously listen to ambient conversations and turn them into summaries and key points, while Live Rewind retrieves a transcript of the previous 15 seconds, a concept that may recall some of the privacy concerns around Microsoft's Recall feature, but for the real world. Automatic Shazam and Sound Recognition are also included. Apple says Siri Recap is opt in and configurable, while raw audio is processed in an isolated Secure Exclave and deleted immediately rather than stored. The features launch in English beta later in 2026 and will not initially be available in the EU.
