ShareX drops most ambitious update in project's history with rewritten user interface
In a move described by developers as the largest overhaul in ShareX's nearly two-decade run, the popular open-source screenshot and screen recording utility has released version 22.0, a ground-up rebuild that promises modern design and expanded capabilities while acknowledging growing pains ahead. The development team has openly warned users to expect lower stability than typical releases, citing the complete UI redesign and backend refactoring that touched the majority of the application's core functionality.
Among the headline features is native screen recording capability that no longer depends on FFmpeg for basic capture operations, alongside system audio, microphone, and camera overlay support. The update introduces a configurable recording bar offering granular control over start delays, audio inputs, cursor visibility, and mouse highlighting, options previously scattered across menus. Version 22.0 also brings 120 FPS recording support, a suite of redesigned built-in tools spanning image/video processing and system utilities, and upgraded infrastructure including a jump to .NET 10 and FFmpeg 9.0. Additional enhancements include code-signed installers, expanded cloud storage integrations such as Amazon S3 multi-part uploads and Immich support, and translations across 28 languages including Czech, Swedish, Hindi, Thai, and Danish.
Developers have committed to rapid iteration in the coming weeks, promising close monitoring of issue reports and swift patches. For power users who rely on ShareX's workflow automation and versatile capture capabilities, the transition may require patience, but the rewrite signals an ambitious push toward modernizing a tool many have depended on since its early days.

My screen grabbing tool of choice. 😊
ShareX carried for many years on Windows, AFAIK the only tool that will save screenshots automatically. ❤
My mistake was looking for screenahot tools as most recording tools also have screenshot functionality built in.
