Google expands AI Mode advertising to 10 new markets amid search evolution

Google has announced that it is rolling out advertisements in AI Mode across ten new countries in Google Search, marking a significant expansion of monetization within its generative search experience. The update brings sponsored content to Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Singapore, with further expansion planned for Brazil, Mexico, and the United Kingdom in Q4 2026. In the U.S., the company is simultaneously launching multiturn ads that allow commercial placements in follow-up queries within AI Mode conversations, reflecting the platform's shift toward more conversational search behavior where queries are reportedly three times longer than traditional searches.

The move comes as Google seeks to integrate advertising into an increasingly central search product while addressing advertiser and user concerns. According to internal data from August-September 2026, click-through rates for sponsored product listings in AI Mode already match those of organic results, suggesting comparable user engagement. The company also cited research indicating that users find ads in this environment to be “highly relevant” and expressed comfort with their presence. All promotional content will carry a clear “Sponsored” label, and Google said it continues testing new formats to maintain relevance and utility within the AI-powered search interface.

Time to ditch Google completely to the people that didn't yet

Meanwhile, Google actual ad revenue from AI searches is lower than from regular searches. Net revenue is negative (first time for 20 years) because of AI but Google is still planning to "invest" (i.e. raising more debt) around $1T into AI infrastructure over the next few years. Google's stock price just lost 12% because of this insane spending. But Sundar Pichai is optimist, AI is the future, his own research shows it. So everything is fine.
