Threads adds fediverse post feed and improves in-app profile discovery
Threads is expanding its integration with the fediverse, introducing a dedicated feed for posts from federated platforms. When users opt in to fediverse sharing, these external posts become accessible under the 'Following' tab, clearly separated from native Threads content and reached via a new link at the top. This lets Threads users pull in content from networks such as Mastodon, BookWyrm, WriteFreely, and more services planned for the future.
As part of its ongoing interoperability updates, the app now allows for in-app search and discovery of fediverse profiles. Users can find accounts from platforms including Flipboard and WordPress bloggers, provided those users have enabled fediverse sharing. While Threads users can view top-level posts from the fediverse, they are not yet able to reply to them. Replies from fediverse accounts to a user’s Threads posts remain accessible but are housed elsewhere in the app.
Meta has outlined its aim to further connect Threads users to a broader array of social platforms. Past updates have already enabled post sharing to Mastodon, following federated accounts, and viewing their replies.
