Meta launches parental controls on Threads with limits and insights for protecting teens

Meta is introducing parental supervision features on Threads, expanding its efforts to offer parents more effective ways to guide their teens’ experiences across the company’s platforms. Beginning next week in the United States, parents and guardians using Meta’s Family Center will have access to Threads-specific supervision tools, similar to those currently available for Facebook and Instagram.

In addition to Threads’ existing protections, such as private accounts and limited content visibility for teen users, parents will soon be able to decide whether teens under 16 can relax these default settings. These changes are designed to give parents increased oversight without removing built-in safety nets for younger users.

With these new supervision options, parents can view how much time their teen spends on Threads each day over the past week, enforce daily time limits, and block app access during selected hours or overnight. Further features include the ability to control who can tag their teen in posts, and to manage or approve certain privacy settings and sensitive content preferences aimed at protecting teens while using Threads.
