Apple prepares to let EU users set third-party assistants as the default instead of Siri

Apple is reportedly preparing to let users in the European Union set a default voice assistant other than Siri. Reported by Bloomberg, the change is driven by expanding European Union regulations that require increased interoperability, and is set to apply across major Apple platforms, including iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

Users in the EU users may gain the ability to set alternatives like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or even AI assistants like Google Gemini, ChatGPT or Perplexity as their system-wide default.

While the company has not yet disclosed any details about the rollout timeline or specific implementation, this system-level change will not require new hardware, as Apple is expected to implement the update through upcoming software releases.
