postmarketOS enhances mobile Linux with systemd, Thunderbird config, Lomiri UI, and more
postmarketOS has introduced several enhancements to its Linux distribution for mobile devices. The integration of systemd into postmarketOS edge aims to improve the performance of UIs such as GNOME Mobile, Plasma Mobile, and Phosh. This change provides a timeline of over four months to address any bugs before the v25.06 stable release.
The update also brings a mobile configuration for Thunderbird, complementing the existing setup for Firefox. Support for the Ubuntu Touch user interface Lomiri has been reintroduced, although it is recommended to test it with QEMU beforehand due to its bleeding-edge status.
Additionally, postmarketOS edge now supports 13 new devices, including the MacBook Air M1, Raspberry Pi 5, and various Samsung Galaxy, ODROID, and Banana Pi models, among others. The release of pmbootstrap 3.2.0 is necessary for building systemd-enabled postmarketOS images. Further improvements in this update include enhancements to audio, camera functionality, initramfs, and pmaports.
