SparkyLinux 2024.05 released with autopartitioning option for faster installation

SparkyLinux, the Debian-based Linux distribution known for its speed and lightweight nature, has released its latest version, 2024.05. One of the key features of this version is an autopartitioning option that significantly accelerates the installation process.

The new SparkyLinux 2024.05 is powered by the Linux Kernel 6.7.12. It also comes bundled with Firefox 115.10.0-ESR (though Sparky repos house version 125.0.3), Thunderbird 115.10.1, and LibreOffice 24.2.0.

The distribution has ceased using the nala APT front-end, citing insufficient package upgrade performance when compared to APT. As a result, users are recommended to return to using APT for system updates.

Despite the release of LXQt 2.0 in April, SparkyLinux 2024.05 continues to rely on LXQt 1.4. For those utilizing the MATE desktop environment, the update brings several enhancements and replaces galculator with MATE Calculator for a more seamless experience. Lastly, the update introduces three new packages: orca, noi, and qt6ct.
