LibreOffice 24.2 Community launches with AutoRecovery, NotebookBar enhancements and more

LibreOffice, the widely used free and open-source office suite, has recently launched its 24.2 'Community' version. This marks the first major release to adopt the new calendar-based numbering scheme (YY.M).

The 24.2 version introduces a significant feature: Save AutoRecovery information is now enabled by default and consistently creates backup copies. This change minimizes the risk of data loss, particularly for first-time LibreOffice users who may not be familiar with the software's settings.

This release also addresses several NotebookBar options, including enhanced menu improvements, superior print preview support, accurate resetting of customized layouts, and improved radio button usage.

In addition, the Insert Special Character drop-down list in 24.2 now provides a description for the selected character, further enhancing the user experience.

LibreOffice 24.2 brings upgrades to many of its components. LibreOffice Writer sees ordered list numbering enhancements and the ability for comments to use styles. LibreOffice Calc now supports the scientific number format and has a new search field in the Functions sidebar deck. Improvements in LibreOffice Impress and LibreOffice Draw include better handling of small caps, upgraded templates, and changes in settings.

Finally, the 24.2 version also introduces accessibility and security enhancements, along with other minor changes and bug fixes, making it a comprehensive update to the LibreOffice suite.
