Google unveils new AI-focused updates to its suite of apps, including Gemini & AI-Video
Google has recently announced several updates and features for its suite of apps and Android at the I/O 2024, with a focus on AI. A major highlight was the update to the Google Gemini 1.5 AI model, now called Gemini 1.5 Flash, promising faster response times and broader context capabilities. Google plans to integrate Gemini AI into Android devices, starting with the Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24, and extending to more Android applications and features.
The updated Google Chrome 126 will include Gemini Nano AI, enabling users to generate text-based content directly in the browser. This will also help developers debug using Chrome DevTools. Google Workspace now includes Gemini 1.5 Pro to automate tasks and extract document information for paid subscribers. Google Photos has also incorporated Gemini AI with the "Ask Photos" feature, allowing users to search their photo library for specific information.
Google introduced Gems, a platform for creating custom AI chatbots. Gemini Live Chat has been improved with real-time conversations and context-aware responses. Project Astra, a versatile AI assistant capable of understanding visual inputs and carrying out tasks conversationally, was also unveiled. Google Veo, a new AI model for generating 1080p videos from text, image, and video prompts, was targeted at YouTube creators and film producers.
Google Lens now supports web searches using video recordings, and the Circle to Search Android feature helps students solve math word problems. The new Google Search AI Overviews feature offers a redesigned search result page with summarized answers powered by Gemini (kinda similar to Perplexity if you ask me), set to roll out initially in the US before expanding globally.
