Microsoft Paint and Photos app to get AI-powered editing tools & super-resolution features

Microsoft Paint is set to receive AI-powered tools akin to Adobe Photoshop's Generative Fill and Generative Erase. Generative Fill enables users to add AI-generated objects to images by describing them in text and choosing their placement. Generative Erase allows for the removal of unwanted objects by painting over them with an adjustable brush.

These tools will be available on Copilot+ PCs, potentially reducing the need for more complex image editing software for simple tasks. Building on Microsoft's earlier Cocreator tool, which generates images from text prompts and sketches, these new features utilize an updated AI model that enhances quality and speed while incorporating moderation tools to prevent misuse.

Additionally, Microsoft Photos will also gain the Generative Erase tool and a new Super-Resolution feature. Super-Resolution can upscale blurry or pixelated images up to eight times their original resolution using on-device AI, achieving 4K quality within seconds. This feature is free to use, offering quick and high-quality image enhancements.
