Linux Mint 21.3 'Virginia' is now available with initial Wayland support, and much more
Linux Mint, one of the most prevalent Linux distributions, has announced the release of its version 21.3, dubbed “Virginia”, just a month after its beta version was launched. This version is a long term support (LTS) release, ensuring support until 2027, and brings with it updated software, numerous refinements, and new features aimed at enhancing the desktop experience.
A significant feature of Linux Mint 21.3 is its complete support for SecureBoot and compatibility with an expanded range of BIOS and EFI implementations. This release also showcases Linux kernel 5.15 and an Ubuntu 22.04 package base. An upcoming Edge version, featuring Linux kernel 6.5 for improved hardware support, is expected in the following weeks.
Linux Mint 21.3 offers three desktop environments: Cinnamon, MATE, and Xfce. This version also introduces improvements to Hypnotix, a TV viewer application, and enhancements to Cinnamon 6.0. The latter now includes add-ons known as “spices” and initial support for Wayland.
Additionally, Linux Mint 21.3 brings back 75% scaling, window opacity keybinding, and brings many other improvements, changes, and bug fixes.
