InVision announces the closure of its UX design collaboration services by the end of 2024
The once-prominent UX design/prototyping platform, InVision, has recently announced the forthcoming shutdown of its design collaboration services by the end of 2024. This closure will affect all of the key features that the platform currently offers, including its prototypes tool and the Design System Manager.
InVision began as an easy-to-use prototyping tool and eventually became a significant player in the UX/UI design collaboration tools field, driven by its web-based platform and integration with specialized design tools like Sketch. However, the emergence of platforms such as Lunacy, Adobe XD, Framer, and especially Figma, with their innovated features and smooth integration of UI design and prototyping capabilities within the same platform, started drawing users away from InVision. In response, InVision introduced InVision Studio, an attempt to create a more robust UI design tool for an integrated design solution, but the swift progress of its competitors and the lack of a distinctive value led to the abandonment of the product. InVision also launched Freehand, a collaborative whiteboard and mind mapping tool, alternative to Mural, Excalidraw, or Miro, which was acquired by the latter in November 2023.
The company has outlined the shutdown process on its support page, indicating that access will cease on December 31, 2024, followed by the permanent deletion of all documents. Annual subscriptions have been halted, and enterprise customers will receive personalized support for the transition, while non-enterprise users are advised to continue using InVision until the end of 2024, but if you are one of the users still using the service and want to explore some of the best alternatives to switch, we recommend starting with Lunacy, Penpot, ProtoPie, and of course, Figma. If you're looking for a more advanced prototyping tool, you may be interested in Axure RP or Justinmind.
