OpenAI revives 'Browse using Bing' for ChatGPT, enabling web browsing on the platform
OpenAI has re-introduced the "Browse with Bing" feature for its ChatGPT, months after the feature was initially launched and then disabled due to misuse and concerns about users accessing paywalled content. This will allow users to access real-time data from reliable online sources within the chatbot platform. The feature is initially available to Plus and Enterprise subscribers, but OpenAI plans to make it accessible to all users in the future.
Microsoft has been providing similar web information through Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft Edge, and the recently launched Windows Copilot, similar to Google Gemini in Google Chrome. Bing will also power real-time web results for Meta's AI Assistant, which is integrated into WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger.
The process of activating the web search feature on ChatGPT differs between the browser version and the iOS app, but subscribers can enable "Browse with Bing" in their profile settings, then they need to select "Beta features," enable "Browse with Bing," and select it under GPT-4. Although the feature might be slower, it lets users cross-check answers with the source websites for verification.
