Google expands Android Auto's app support and adds Zoom and Webex for in-car conferencing

Google has announced that Android Auto now supports more third-party applications, including Zoom and Webex, albeit with audio-only functionality. This new category of apps allows users to join scheduled meetings and conference calls directly from their car's display, eliminating the need to handle their mobile devices while driving.

In addition to expanding its third-party app support, Google is also enhancing its built-in video app offerings in cars. Prime Video is now accessible via Google Play in select Renault, Polestar and Volvo Cars, with plans to extend this feature to other brands in the future.

The tech giant is not limiting its in-car entertainment options to video. A standalone app, Vivaldi, a Chromium-based internet browser, is now available on Google Play in the car, broadening the range of parked entertainment options.

Google is also increasing support for its digital car key feature, a system that enables users to unlock, lock, and start their cars using their mobile devices. This feature also allows users to share their digital keys wirelessly with family and friends, and is compatible with both Android and iOS platforms.
