Google releases Android Auto 14.0 & 14.1 beta with Gemini preparation & support for games
Google has expanded the availability of the Android Auto 14.0 update to a broader user base. While the update itself brings minimal visible changes, it is a crucial step towards integrating more advanced features, including Google's Gemini AI assistant and enhanced in-car functionalities. Initially rolled out in late March, Android Auto 14.0 can now be downloaded via the Play Store.
In parallel, Google has started deploying Android Auto 14.1 to beta users, introducing support for select Android games playable on car displays. These games include Angry Birds 2, Beach Buggy Racing, Candy Crush Soda Saga, and Farm Heroes Saga. The list of supported games is expected to grow over time. The gaming feature is compatible with both wired and wireless Android Auto connections, though performance may vary based on the vehicle's specifications, with older models potentially experiencing less smooth gameplay.
To play games, users must first launch them on their phone and provide necessary permissions. It's important to note that Android Auto restricts gameplay to when the car is parked; shifting out of park will immediately stop any active games and disable their shortcuts.
