Grammarly to discontinue standalone desktop editor apps in 2024

Grammarly will phase out its standalone Desktop Editor applications for Windows and Mac from 2024. Users have been informed a month prior to this decision, with the recommendation to switch to the web-based Grammarly Editor, which in addition to the regular features offered by the platform, such as grammar and spelling checks, conciseness analysis, tone detection, auto-citations, it also incorporates Grammarly's generative AI assistance with features like personalized voice detection for mimicking users' writing styles.

As an alternative, Grammarly has announced that it will continue to update its alternative versions, Grammarly for Windows and Grammarly for Mac, which integrate its features across apps like Microsoft Word, Pages, Notes, and more. However, if you are specifically looking for something different with desktop support, we recommend checking out apps like Scrivener, LanguageTool or ProWritingAid
